Many of my couples, whether it be for a maternity, engagement or family photo shoot ask for my suggestions with regards to locations in the GTA. Before throwing out many of the incredible options that Toronto has to offer I always check to see their preferred backdrop. If they answer 'beach' my go to recommendation is the majestic Scarborough Bluffs.

Other than the fact that it is one of the few Toronto hot spots that does not require a photography permit (saving everybody some wonga), it never ceases to provide exquisite beauty. The more you explore, the more hidden treasures you find.

The diversity it delivers along it's trail prior to reaching the actual beach is so very impressive if you just take the time to explore. From the long reeds and wild flowers to the water covered rocks you need to skip and leap across it delivers time and time again.

Keep in mind though that this secret Toronto treasure is not so secret amongst the photography world and it is often riddled with other photographers working away. Do not let this deter you. Instead try to be smart and book your session on a weekday, avoiding the popular Friday, Saturday and Sundays. It is 100% worth it!

To choose the bluffs you have to be 'my kind of people', and by that I mean you have to be up for getting your feet wet and covered in sand. Depending on the rainfall there is no way of avoiding the water covered rocks on route. If it has been particularly dry then you may luck out and be able to cross without getting those toes wet but usually there is some degree of storm water passing over, leading to an awesome capture spot.

So if you want to feel like you have escaped the Toronto chaos to a tropical cliff lined beach then this is your spot. Be prepared to embrace the environment and get messy, run on the beach, splash in the water (after checking the e coli level of course lol) and jump in the mud. Cuddle up in the sand and hide away amongst the reeds below the sandy cliffs. Let magic happen.
